The Architecture of a Moment: The Happiness Equation
As an artist, my practice is driven by the pursuit of capturing the unseen frameworks of our reality—how human awareness interacts with time, space, and environment. On this wind-swept coastline, that pursuit crystallized into a distinct internal formula.
We can look at the anatomy of profound peace not just as a fleeting feeling, but as a balanced state of being:

A Meet-and-Greet with a Coastal Icon
No visit to this historic landscape would be complete without encountering its most famous, noble resident: the Newfoundland dog. Coming face-to-face with this magnificent water dog on the stone pathways of Signal Hill feels like meeting the living spirit of the island itself.
With their massive, powerful frames, weather-resistant double coats, and webbed feet, these gentle giants were historically bred to work alongside fishers, rescuing lost equipment and saving lives from the treacherous Atlantic waves. Hugging this incredibly thick, dark coat against the backdrop of the deep blue ocean brings a grounding, joyful perspective to the journey. The calm, soulful eyes of the Newfoundland dog reflect a quiet resilience that matches the craggy cliffs they walk upon.
Signal Hill: A Legacy of Connection
Signal Hill carries an immense historical and scientific weight that mirrors the core of my creative inquiry. Long before it earned its current moniker, the British military dubbed this imposing landscape "The Lookout" in 1762, recognizing its unmatched vantage point over the strategic Atlantic waters.
But its true transformation into an intellectual beacon occurred at Cabot Tower, the stone sentinel overlooking the harbor. It was here, in December 1901, that Guglielmo Marconi received the first-ever transatlantic wireless signal—a simple three-dot Morse code for the letter "S" sent from Cornwall, England.
Inside the tower today, vintage radio equipment and maps stand as testaments to this breakthrough. This site represents the exact point where humanity successfully bridged the vast, terrifying expanse of the ocean using invisible electromagnetic waves. It is a profound reminder that we are defined by our drive to communicate across the void, learning through initial failures and constantly improving our understanding of the universe through rigorous experimentation.
The Vision: Expanding Consciousness
True consciousness is achieved by actively connecting to the intricate tapestry of life surrounding us. It requires us to slow down and attune our awareness to the plants, the deep ocean water, the animals, the birds, the ancient rock formations, the trees, and the very air we breathe.
The Avalon Peninsula has endured for millennia and will continue to exist long after us, leaving us with the beautiful responsibility to observe, experiment, and capture its poetic relationship with time.
